A gardener who pulls out a weed must also plant grass in its place. Otherwise more weeds will inevitably grow out of the bare ground. A reformer who brings down a corrupt institution must erect a just one in its place, or risk the return of corruption. Destruction leaves behind a vacuum that must be filled – for better or for worse.
In other words:
It’s useless to fight against something if you’re not also fighting for something.
